This prestigious club was sponsored on the 26th of June 1985 ,to be the member of Rotary International by having Rotary club of Madurai as its parent club, while Rtn.Er.Jawahar and Rtn Brij Mohan Guptha as the president and secretary of parent club Rotary club of Madurai during the Governor ship of Rtn.PDG Syed Ibrahim.

Rotary club of Madurai down town had Rtn.KishoreNichani as the charter president accompanied by Rtn.Janardhanan as the secretary of the club, nominated by the parent club Rc of Madurai. After six months from  the initial kick off Dr.V.Harshan the charter Member took over as the president and was ably supported by Rtn.W.S.Subramanian. as the secretary.

We have with us two charter members today, Rtn.Liakath ali,  , Rtn.Sugumar. Family bonding is the very uniqueness of this club which intensify year by year and goes on…

This club has a well known signature project “The Blood donation” which is carried out for the last 34 years. Polio awareness campaign carried out by our PP Jeyanth during 1989 by flying the hot air balloon over the city of Madurai was the bench mark of public image. 7 rotary ann were inducted as the members of this club during 2005-6 which was the first of its kind in the district, out of which 5 continues till today as members.  Our Anns took over the task of the editor of our club magazine “The Down Pour” which had bagged 10 district awards and one National Award.

This club has produced 2 district governors and qualified and quality district officers in the last two decades. This club has also been a promising club for all the district governors on fulfilling their district and RI Goals.
